📣 Explore Our Campus & Meet Our Team | Open Day: October 21st [Learn More] 📣
The world around us is changing faster than ever, and the ability to understand global challenges is vital for the young generation. At Perrott Hill Prague, we believe the best way to prepare children for the future is by giving them the opportunity to step into the shoes of global leaders. That is precisely the purpose of our Model United Nations (MUN) extra-curricular club – simulating real UN negotiations to nurture confident, critical thinkers.
Diplomacy, Debating, and a Global Outlook
MUN is designed for pupils in Year 9–Year 13. During weekly sessions, pupils step into the roles of delegates representing various countries. They investigate real-world global issues and learn to defend the official stance of their assigned nation, even when it differs from their personal perspective. This immersive process naturally fosters empathy, sharpens analytical thinking, and teaches pupils to construct compelling, well-reasoned arguments while engaging in respectful, constructive dialogue.
Structure of a Weekly MUN Session
Sessions take place once a week and last 60 minutes. The programme follows a structured framework guided by a teacher, while the activities themselves are pupil-led:
- Current Affairs Briefing (10 minutes): A quick overview of global news and an introductory warm-up.
- Research & Strategy (20 minutes): Writing position papers for the assigned country and formulating delegate strategies.
- Moderated Debate & Negotiation (25 minutes): Formal debating, unmoderated caucusing behind the scenes, and drafting resolution proposals.
- Feedback & Reflection (5 minutes): Constructive review and insights provided by the teacher.
The Journey to International Conferences in Prague and Across Europe
In-school preparation in our extra-curricular club is merely the first step. Our pupils regularly attend prestigious student conferences – ranging from local events such as Junior Model United Nations and Model United Nations Prague, to major international conferences across Europe and beyond (such as Haarlem Model United Nations or Future Leaders Model United Nations).
During these conferences, pupils deliver opening speeches, negotiate amendments, and vote on final resolutions. Each event culminates in an official closing ceremony. Rather than singling out a single winner, conferences recognise outstanding individual performance across specific categories:
- Best Delegate: Exceptional performance during debate, combining diplomatic tact with strong team leadership.
- Outstanding Diplomat: Extraordinary talent for negotiation, compromise, and collaboration.
- Best Speaker: Persuasive rhetoric, clarity of speech, and powerful argumentation.
The panel of judges evaluates adherence to foreign policy, depth of research, mastery of parliamentary procedure, clarity of delivery, and collaborative skills.
Why MUN is a Cornerstone Activity at Perrott Hill Prague
Model United Nations creates an inspiring environment where theoretical knowledge transforms into practical leadership skills. Pupils gain a nuanced understanding of contemporary world issues while building vital soft skills that serve them exceptionally well throughout their studies at top global universities and in their future international careers.
